CALEDONIA – A two-vehicle accident Friday morning claimed the life of a Crawford woman at the Dowdle Road and Cal-Steens Road intersection.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the woman as Contina Monroe, 53, in a Friday text to media members.
Monroe was driving a Ford Fusion traveling east on Dowdle Road when the vehicle was struck by a Ford pickup at about 9 a.m. as it crossed the intersection, Merchant said. The pickup was traveling south on Cal-Steens Road.
Merchant told The Dispatch that the driver of the pickup was not injured in the crash, and he is not aware of any additional passengers in either vehicle.
The investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release issued Friday.
