ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) – The Itawamba County Soil and Conservation District is offering a bounty on beavers.

Maria Grissom, with the Itawamba Soil and Conservation District, said beaver dams can flood crops, woodlands and roads.

She said this happens when the limbs and sticks beavers use to build their homes clog and block drainage from flowing properly.

The district is offering $15 per beaver tail.

To qualify, a person must live in Itawamba County, have a valid driver’s license and be able to point to where the beaver was taken on a map.

According to the USDA, beaver control programs like this one could help save up to $57 million a year.

There is a cap on the program. Participants can collect up to $375 a year.
