Ground broken on $3 million clubhouse
WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) – Ground was broken on a new multi-million clubhouse.
Golf Clubs Mississippi LLC broke ground Thursday on a new clubhouse at Mossy Oak Golf Club in Clay County costing more than $3 million.
The facility will include men’s and women’s locker rooms and a golfers’ grill for breakfast and lunch.
An outside pavilion will accommodate about 160 people, said Jim Clay, general manager of Old Waverly.
Courses join under same management
The project follows Old Waverly Golf Club and Mossy Oak Golf Club joining under the same management, Golf Clubs Mississippi LLC.
The goal is to join the two courses and make them a regional golf destination.
“It’s important to our ownership group that Old Waverly continues to grow, and continues to be the top club in the state and one of the top clubs in the country,” Clay said. “You can see it with the investments the ownership group is putting into the property.”
Former professional golfer and 1976 U.S. Open champion Jerry Pate is chairman of Golf Clubs Mississippi.
“We’re tying the two golf courses together where you will feel as one,” Pate said. ”Where both developments can come together and have people stay on both properties and then feel like they are one home of golf here in Mississippi.”
Plans include tunnel, homes
Part of the development includes building another multimillion-dollar clubhouse at Old Waverly and a tunnel that will connect both courses.
The tunnel will tie into Mississippi State’s practice facility.
There are also plans to build 150 homes on land the group bought from Mossy Oak.
Both golf courses will stay open during construction.
The clubhouse is expected to open by Labor Day of 2027 and host community and charitable events.
