JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — The state auditor’s office arrested a former north Mississippi alderman and a former public works operator.

State Auditor Shad White announced the arrests of former Guntown alderman William Daniel Davis and his cousin Robert Lee Davis on Tuesday afternoon for alleged fraud or embezzlement in public office.

The alleged crime happened between October and November 2024, according to White’s office.

They allegedly conspired to defraud the City of Guntown by billing the city for the installation of a residential sewage line at a private home belonging to Daniel Davis.

This cost the city $9,950, according to White’s office.

They both face up to 10 years in prison and $5,000 in fines if convicted.
