OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) – People in Oxford learned how to use Narcan.

Free training was provided Thursday evening as the Oxford and Ole Miss communities continue grieving the recent deaths of two students.

What the training offers

Narcan is a drug used to reverse an opioid overdose.

People who attended the training learned how to use it and were provided with Narcan to take with them, organizers said.

Oxford Police, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and Ole Miss University Police partnered with Communicare for the free community training.

Why organizers say it matters

Oxford Police said the training was an opportunity to give people a potentially life-saving skill.

Raina Brock said the training is needed for everyone, especially college students.

“I think it’s everything, especially when you’re so young and going here. You’re away from your parents. And like I said, knowledge is power, and you can never be too careful, right?” Brock said.
