Synthetic kratom found at another suspected overdose in Oxford
OXFORD, Miss. (WMC) - Oxford Police Department says synthetic kratom was found at the scene of another suspected overdose.
Thursday morning, OPD found a 22-year-old unresponsive at a home on Sweetgum Drive around 5 a.m.
Emergency officials were able to resuscitate the person, who was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
The 22-year-old is not a student at Ole Miss.
Police found synthetic kratom products at the scene; they do not believe the products were purchased in the Oxford area.
Oxford police also say the incident is not connected to the recent deaths of Ole Miss students.
Earlier this week, Lafayette County Metro Narcotics called on on Mississippi lawmakers to ban synthetic kratom.
Detectives say 18-year-old Aidan Hamilton and 20-year-old Robert Strang both purchased SMAX Pseudo-DHM pills, a chemically manipulated product, days before their deaths.
Toxicology results have not yet been released for either student.

“We need immediate legislative hearings, a thorough examination of the state’s controlled substance laws, and clear answers about how manufacturers, distributors and retailers can be held accountable when their actions put lives at risk,” Lafayette County Metro Narcotics wrote in a statement released Wednesday.
