Woman dies following Monday night crash

SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) – One person is dead following a crash in Monroe County.

Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley reports that 38-year-old Jennifer Newcomb Kelly died at the hospital in Jackson Wednesday following a crash around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14.

The coroner said she had been heading south in a pickup truck on Highway 25 near the Smithville High School when her vehicle left the road and hit a tree.

The coroner said she had been ejected from the vehicle, which also caught fire.

She had been airlifted for treatment.

The crash is under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
