Morgan Freeman named ‘College Gameday’ guest picker

OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) — One of Hollywood’s most famous actors will be the “College GameDay” celebrity guest picker on Saturday.

Ole Miss announced Morgan Freeman as its celebrity guest picker on Thursday morning.

The 89-year-old grew up in Mississippi and frequently attends Ole Miss sporting events.

Freeman’s most well-known movies include “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Seven” and “Driving Miss Daisy.”

Each week, the celebrity guest picker — along with the “College Gameday” anchors — predicts the winners of several games, including that week’s host game.

The guest picker usually has a connection to the host university, but not always.

Saturday will be Ole Miss’ third time hosting the nation’s flagship college football pregame show: 2014, 2021 and 2026.

Pop singer Katy Perry served as the guest picker in 2014. Former Ole Miss head coach and current LSU head coach Lane Kiffin served as the guest picker in 2021.

“College Gameday” starts at 8 a.m. CT. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. Watch it on ABC WTVA.
