Fresh new options available for students
FULTON, Miss. (WTVA) – Itawamba County students are getting a fresh new choice when it comes to school lunch.
The school district recently premiered a new deli bar at Itawamba High and Middle schools.
Students can now choose from a variety of fresh ingredients to create their own sandwich.
From the bread and meat to the toppings, students have plenty of options to mix and match.
And for students, it’s a chance to create a meal made just their way.
“Down in the middle school, we didn’t have a deli bar or salad options,” said Itawamba High School student Dylan Stansfield. “So having been able to make your own stuff, it’s pretty new. I really like it.”
“We are trying to do more than just put food on the plate,” said Turner Sanderson, the Child Nutrition Director for the Itawamba County School District. “We want kids to build healthy eating habits. This is one way we can offer fresh food.”
School leaders said the new option is all about giving students more fresh choices while making school lunch a little more personal.
