TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) – A group of students got a behind-the-scenes look at the television news business on Tuesday.

The students, part of Tupelo High School’s WTHS journalism class, toured WTVA News to see what it takes to put a newscast together.

They got a firsthand look at the newsroom, production process, and the people who work behind the scenes to get a story on the air.

The tour gave the aspiring journalists a chance to see the different roles involved in television news, from reporting and producing to shooting and putting a newscast on the air.

“It was great,” said Jolen McKenzie. “The people here are great. It was a different experience for us, like coming in a newsroom. But overall, it was a great experience.”

“Doing the teleprompter and speaking and making sure you have the right posture at the same time was kind of difficult,” said Lauren Overstreet.

The visit gave WTHS students a behind-the-scenes look at the news business as well as a chance to see what it takes to bring the news to viewers each day.
