Grant provided to keep fresh food growing
PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) – A volunteer-maintained garden got a boost from a major retailer.
The Pontotoc Community Garden recently received a $1,500 Walmart Community Grant.

The funds will go toward getting a much-needed tiller and will assist volunteers in preparing for its fall-growing season.
Organizers said every dollar makes a difference as they work to keep fresh produce available to those in need.

“Our purpose is to grow produce for the community,” said Julia McDowell, the manager of the garden. “Everything we harvest here, we take to the Pontotoc Farmers Market. And we run a market pantry on Saturdays at the close of market. We tend to start about 9:15.”

The Pontotoc Community Garden is run by community volunteers and is governed by a local board.
