Elementary school hits major milestone

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) – A major milestone for a local elementary school was celebrated Wednesday.

Carver Elementary School is now being recognized as a Mississippi Whole Schools Model School, a designation that highlights progress, achievement, and a commitment to student success.

Students, staff, and others filled the gym for the celebration.

The principal said this accomplishment can change the trajectory of the entire school community.

“Tears came because I know how hard our art project director, our schools, our teachers, our parents, our community partners work in order to experience this day,” said Carver Elementary School Principal April West McIntosh. “It is such a special moment. I’m just so excited and thankful to be a leader in this school.”

School leaders said the goal now is to build on that momentum and keep the progress going for Carver students.
