CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) – President Donald Trump will hold a political rally in Corinth.

The rally, set for Monday night at the Crossroads Arena, will be in support of Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith ahead of the midterm elections.

It is the first time the president has visited Alcorn County.

Trump joins William McKinley and Franklin D. Roosevelt as the only sitting presidents to visit Corinth.

The rally will be held at Crossroads Arena. It is an RSVP-only event. That can be done here.

Doors open at 2:30 p.m. The event starts at 4:30 p.m. The president is expected to take the stage at 6 p.m.

Hyde-Smith’s campaign expects about 7,500 people to attend Monday’s rally.

Local reaction

“This is a big thing not only for Corinth, but all of Mississippi. How often does our president come?” said Tammy Birmingham, manager of Corinth Academy of Cosmetology. “I think it’s a great opportunity for anyone that is politically inclined to come together and support our community. Whether it be for or against.”

“I think everyone is excited, especially us being such a small town,” said Kayla Pittman at Cross City Collectables. “Who would have thought that Trump would be coming here to Corinth, Mississippi?”

The Downtown Corinth Board of Directors wants all businesses open Monday.

“People are going to come where he is. I feel that is a big boost for us getting people here. And then when they see what is here, they will come back,” said Mary Allison Bradford, owner of Bradford House. “I cannot wait to see how many people actually come to our small town and get to see what it’s like to be in Corinth.”
