Former Vice President Kamala Harris will appear Thursday evening in Columbus High School gymnasium for a campaign rally for Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Scott Colom.
The Colom campaign confirmed the venue Wednesday evening, and the event is open to supporters who signed up to attend. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the event set to begin at 6.
More than 1,000 RSVP’d to attend, according to the campaign.
“There is clearly an overwhelming amount of enthusiasm for Scott and Vice President Harris,” said Gerard Henderson, Colom’s campaign manager. “We look forward to a great event (Thursday) as we rally voters ahead of election day on November 3.”
The event will be live streamed, but those who did not RSVP and receive a ticket will not be allowed to enter the gym.
Colom, a Columbus native and third-term district attorney for the 16th Circuit Court District, is vying to unseat incumbent Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith.
The former vice president is scheduled to campaign with Colom Thursday, starting in Clarksdale before coming to Columbus.
The Colom campaign originally planned to hold the rally in Pohl Gymnasium at the Mississippi University for Women, but MUW Interim President Scott Tollison pulled the plug on that plan Tuesday, citing logistical concerns.
