VERONA, Miss. (WTVA) – Burn bans are putting added pressure on firefighters as dry conditions persist.Firefighters are no strangers to answering the call when danger strikes, as they work to protect homes, businesses, and natural areas. When vegetation is dry and conditions favor fire spread, even a small fire can quickly become a bigger problem. That can mean more time spent containing flames in multiple areas at the same time with limited workers. “The strain comes in when you don’t have a lot of manpower,” said Verona Fire Chief Joshua Parks. “You don’t have a lot of volunteers. So, if you are spread between this fire and that fire, but we only have a few people to go to those calls, that’s where the strain comes in.”Firefighters are urging residents to take burn ban restrictions seriously and avoid activities that could spark a fire.Copyright 2026 WTVA.
