NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) – Going for a fright could help save a life.
The North Haven Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual haunted forest this Halloween season to raise money to keep the community safe.
The department started the fundraiser three years ago to help purchase storm shelters after securing funding proved to be a challenge. So far, the department has two storm shelters.
After an ice storm left residents stranded, the department began working toward turning its fire station into an emergency shelter.
The goal is to give families a safe place to go during power outages and severe weather.
“There are several different things down along the trail this year. We have the jail, the purge, several things planned,” said Josh Wagner, North Haven Volunteer Fire Department. “It’s going to be an exciting time. We want you to come out and have a good time, but also know that it’s for a great cause.”
The forest has drawn 600 people so far.
The haunted forest will be open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Oct. 23, Oct. 24, Oct. 30, and Oct. 31.
It can be found at 1016 County Road 115 in New Albany.
Admission is $10, with free parking available.
Concessions will also be available.
