                    "A handful of Republicans have spoken out against Donald Trump\u2019s softening stance on Russia, threatening to pull financial support for his agenda over his \u201cembarrassing\u201d handling of the Ukraine war.Don Bacon, an outgoing congressman in Nebraska, condemned Trump\u2019s actions \u2013 which include a stunning agreement to buy Russian diesel and the pausing of sanctions on Moscow \u2013 as \u201cabsolutely disgraceful\u201d and accused the US president of cozying up to a \u201cwar criminal\u201d in Vladimir Putin, his Russian counterpart.\u201cIt really is disgraceful, and the Republicans that I associate with, there\u2019s a lot of us, can\u2019t stand it,\u201d Bacon told CNN on Monday. \u201cI think the president\u2019s leverage in this Congress is shot.\u201dLast week, Trump waived sanctions imposed on Russia through a law named after his longtime ally and late senator Lindsey Graham. The legislation, which he signed only last month, was intended to increase financial pressure on Russia, more than four years after it invaded Ukraine.Instead, Trump announced he had struck a deal with Putin to import diesel fuel, which has become more expensive for Americans largely due to Trump\u2019s war with Iran. Trump has previously blamed Ukraine\u2019s strikes on Russia.Over the weekend, Trump claimed Ukraine\u2019s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, \u201cdoesn\u2019t care\u201d about the impact of Ukraine\u2019s strikes on Russia and \u201cdoesn\u2019t want to end this war and probably never did\u201d because Ukraine is receiving financial support from Europe.Trump also suggested Zelenskyy should step down on Monday, saying it was \u201ctime for somebody else to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine\u201d.In an interview with Bloomberg, Zelenskyy said he believed Trump was taking steps to \u201cconvince Ukraine to capitulate\u201d to Russian demands. On social media, Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine\u2019s partnership with the US.Darline Graham, the sister of Lindsey Graham and now a senator from South Carolina, broke with the president on his decision over the weekend, telling reporters on Saturday: \u201cPersonally, I would choose to put the pressure on Russia to end the war and get gas prices down because I don\u2019t trust Putin, and I don\u2019t trust Russia.\u201d\u201c[Ronald Reagan] and [Lindsey Graham] would be ashamed of this,\u201d Bill Cassidy, the outgoing US senator from Louisiana, wrote on X in response to a recent Wall Street Journal editorial on the matter.Mitt Romney, a former Republican senator and presidential candidate, wrote on social media that if the US abandoned Ukraine, it would also \u201cabandon liberty\u201d.Some lawmakers had already raised concerns about the president\u2019s support for Ukraine after Ukrainian officials said the country\u2019s access to Starshield, a military version of the Starlink satellite internet service powered by Elon Musk\u2019s company, was restricted last week. And by the way, it\u2019s not just Starshield. It\u2019s the diesel deal. It\u2019s the lifting of sanctions. It\u2019s all of this stuff.\u201dFitzpatrick said lawmakers would \u201cdemand accountability\u201d and that they could take \u201cpunitive budgetary action\u201d to force the administration to provide answers.Bacon told CNN he was unwilling to support the president\u2019s agenda, such as building a triumphal arch or a new White House ballroom, while he withheld support for Ukraine.\u201cWhy would I want to support the president\u2019s priorities, like the victory arch?\u201d Bacon asked. \u201cFrankly, what I see him doing here is surrendering.\u201dBacon added: \u201cWhy should we try to accommodate him and meet him halfway on funding when he is embarrassing this country so bad with what he\u2019s doing with Putin and Zelensky?\u201d"
