ARTESIA, MISS. (WTVA) — Two teenagers are in custody following the death of another teenager in Lowndes County.

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Jaquarious Brooks, 18, and the homicide victim as Jaraquist Cunningham, 18.

The incident happened Wednesday evening, just before 7:00, at a basketball court in Artesia.

The sheriff’s office released no more details about what happened between the two teenagers.

Brooks’ mother contacted the sheriff’s office and requested to surrender her son.

Sheriff Eddie Hawkins met with Brooks’ family and arrested the 18-year-old. Investigators charged him with murder.

Thursday, the sheriff’s office arrested 18-year-old Landyn Joel Brooks as a second suspect in the case.

Investigators allege that Landyn Brooks assisted Jaquarious Brooks with destroying evidence related to the homicide.

Landyn Brooks is charged with accessory after the fact.

The sheriff said Cunningham attended West Lowndes High School.

Jaquarious Brooks and Landyn Brooks remain in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting their initial appearances.
