Former VP Harris to campaign with Colom in Columbus

Former Vice President Kamala Harris will visit Columbus this month to campaign with U.S. Senate candidate Scott Colom.

An email from Colom’s campaign confirmed Harris will be in Columbus Oct. 22. It did not include any other details of her visit.

“I am honored to have Vice President Harris join me on the campaign trail as we fight to lower costs for Mississippi families, raise the minimum wage, and save healthcare and our rural hospitals,” Colom said in the email.

Colom, a Democrat and Columbus native, is challenging Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith for Mississippi’s junior Senate seat. Colom is serving his third term as district attorney for the 16th Circuit – which includes Lowndes, Oktibbeha, Clay and Noxubee counties.

Harris served as Joe Biden’s vice president and was the Democratic nominee for president in 2024, losing to Donald Trump.

Harris joins a number of prominent Democrats campaigning for Colom ahead of the Nov. 3 general election, including Sens. Raphael Warnock, Cory Booker and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Former President Barack Obama cut an ad this week supporting Colom.
