Impeachment is a trial investigating the validity of such an action.   Regardless of political affiliation, a fair & truly noble Gov't would invite such inspection though the time & efforts involved is hugely distracting and costly.   An autocratic leader would clearly see this as threatening and seek to denigrate any who dare to speak such words.   However any Veteran, even a Marine, should remember our oaths to protect the constitution, NOT any President, includes the words "domestic" classifying potential "enemies".  This military person was simply a Torch bearer lighting the appropriate way forward as an Officer should.   Nothing more, nothing less. You cannot interfere with the chain of command and the President is at the top of that chain. If you want to do that you have to leave the military.  The hypocrisy here is that many Republicans replying would be trying to justify the comments if it was a Democratic President. This isnt about politics. I don't know if solitary confinement should be made in this case, unless it is for his own protection. I have no idea how the general population would judge him. But that being the case, I think he is being protected for one his family, two his military experience, and three his length of service in the armed forces. You have to remember the good old boy Network in the military. His stand was ill-conceived.  He could have resigned his commission and then protest as an Honorable Veteran (Citizen).   'UCMJ Article 88 prohibits commissioned officers from using contemptuous words against specific officials, including the President, Vice President, and Congress, among others. Violations can lead to severe penalties, including dismissal from service and confinement for up to one year.'   Facing dsmissal and confinement for up to one year.  The system works, a price will be paid for one's decisions.  Nothing to see here, the beat goes on...
