Matthew Ingalls — one of the seven Chi Phi fraternity brothers at the center of(https://nypost.com/2026/10/01/us-news/everything-we-know-about-explosive-cornell-7-rape-case-shocking-the-nation/) the explosive Ivy League case —  told Cornell University police that he was the one too intoxicated from booze and ketamine to consent to sex that fateful 2024 night, records obtained by ABC News showed. Ingalls suggested that the alleged victim — a then-20-year-old student (https://nypost.com/2026/10/03/us-news/women-standing-in-solidarity-using-jane-doe-moniker-as-people-attempt-to-dox-cornell-7-rape-victim/) only identified as Jane Doe in court papers — was the one who therefore assaulted him during the debauched and drunken night and not the other way around, (https://nypost.com/2026/09/30/us-news/cornell-accuser-told-cops-with-100-confidence-i-was-raped-bombshell-transcript-reveals/) as she has claimed. (The Chi Phi Fraternity House on the Cornell University campus.) The Chi Phi Fraternity House is seen on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, N.Y., on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026. Cornell has been the center of a growing scandal regarding sexual assault that was underreported at the Chi Phi Fraternity house in 2024. A screenshot of the “Chi Phi Actives” Snapchat group is pictured on Oct. 20, 2024. A lawsuit alleges Cornell fraternity members were offered “essay” mitigation after an alleged gang rape. Obtained by NY Post Ingalls has previously been identified as the frat brother who(https://nypost.com/2026/09/29/us-news/sickening-new-texts-in-cornell-7-group-chat-revealed-shop-still-open/) told his friends through a fraternity group chat to “come whip it out” after another had announced there was “free p—sy” to be had in the house, referring to the accuser. Ingalls allegedly fell asleep at one point during the sexual encounter – prompting another brother to reportedly take his place – before he woke again later and rejoined the sex, documents released by the Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office showed. Neither Ingalls nor any of the other six young men (https://nypost.com/2026/10/05/us-news/cornell-student-feels-betrayed-by-handling-of-alleged-gang-rape/) have been criminally charged , with the local DA saying he previously did not see enough evidence to warrant a case. That changed when the woman filed a civil suit last month. (https://nypost.com/2026/09/27/us-news/da-reopens-probe-into-7-cornell-frat-bros-who-allegedly-drugged-gang-raped-student/) Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said he was reopening a probe based on what he called new details in her lawsuit. Ingalls’ reported comments to cops were just the latest twist in the confusing case, which has seen contradicting claims from all parties involved – including Doe herself, who originally assured Ingalls everything they did together was consensual, Cornell documents showed. But that idea slowly began to shift in the ensuing weeks as she kept thinking about how the night transpired and after rumors began swirling around campus and people suggested Doe had been raped. She reportedly began to feel the same way. Doe ultimately reported the incident as rape about three weeks later, claiming she was “100% confident I was raped” in an interview with campus police – only for the statement cops provided to the DA to apparently completely omit any such allegations. That prompted DA Van Houten not to press charges at the time, along with Doe’s claims in the statement that she’d willfully been drinking and drugging before the assault. But even that fact of her intoxication was muddied after the matter – with Ingalls telling Doe on a phone call she recorded before going to police that she said she was sober the night of the alleged rape. “You did tell me you were sober,” Ingalls said on the call, obtained by ABC. “You did, you said you hadn’t been anywhere.” But Doe told him she was “100% sure” that wasn’t true, and that Ingalls “already knew” she was “10 shots deep” when she arrived at his frat house.
