                    "Portugal\u2019s Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office has opened an inquiry into the legality of US military use of Lajes Air Base ahead of its war against Iran, according to media reports.\nThe inquiry follows a complaint filed by the Left Bloc in April, which called for an investigation into whether the use of the base violated domestic and international law, broadcaster RTP reported Friday.\nThe party then asked the Attorney General\u2019s Office to investigate whether the use of the base complied with the law, arguing from the outset that it constituted a \u201cgross violation of International Law.\u201d\nThe coordinator of the Left Bloc, Joss Manuel Pureza, stated at the time that \u201ceither the Government\u201d was \u201cin agreement with the gross violation of International Law and Portuguese Law,\u201d or it lacked the \u201cpolitical backbone\u201d to \u201cremove itself from illegality.\u201d\nREAD:\u00a0Dual UK-Iranian national arrested over suspected RAF Fairford plot released on bail\nPureza also questioned the position taken by Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel, who has denied any violation of the agreement between Portugal and the US regarding the military use of Lajes or of International Law.\n\u201cI suppose that, moreover, Minister Paulo Rangel himself doesn\u2019t believe what he\u2019s saying.
