WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) – A familiar landmark is getting a new look while keeping its place in the community’s history.

West Point’s Sally Kate Winters Memorial Park gazebo is being reimagined to create a larger, more accessible gathering space for events and visitors.

The new gazebo is designed to honor the character of the original structure, while giving the community more room to gather, celebrate and connect.

Belinda Stewart Architects, or BSA, is partnering with The Growth Alliance on the project.

“Over 40 years, there was a lot of wear and tear. There was some vandalism. It was added onto,” said West Point Clay County Community Growth Alliance Executive Director Lisa Klutts. “Then it just became unsafe. We received funding through the federal government through ARPA funds to build a new gazebo. It’s going to be even stronger, even bigger, and even better.”

The project is expected to be completed by December, just in time for the gazebo to welcome visitors during next year’s Prairie Arts Festival.
