OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) – An Oxford teacher and school are getting funding.

Dr. Ave Miller, a math interventionist at Oxford Intermediate School, received funding for classroom resources during College GameDay in the Grove before the Ole Miss versus Louisiana State game two weekends ago.

College GameDay presented her with a $1,000 check in DonorsChoose classroom resources, and Oxford Intermediate School also received $10,000.

The money comes from Extra Yards for Teachers, part of the College Football Playoff Foundation.

Teachers at elementary, middle, and high schools across the country are recognized through the program for their work in the classroom.

Selection requires a nomination.

Miller said her husband submitted her name.

“I think that education is just such a rewarding profession. It does come with its challenges. I’m really blessed, and I work in an awesome district,” Miller said. “I have great people around me, but just anytime somebody reaches out and acknowledges the work we do or supports us in any way, it just makes it that much more.”

Miller said she is still making a list of what she would like for her classroom, and her students have given her suggestions.

She said once the list is finalized, she should have the items by next year.
