Demon Clopton, 24, is charged with aggravated assault, according to Lowndes County Adult Detention Center booking information. Officers responded to the scene at about 10:40 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of a shooting, a Columbus Police Department press release said. Before they arrived, the victim had left the scene in his own vehicle for Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released later Friday. Police later located and stopped the victim’s vehicle, which 31-year-old Jaylin Williams was driving, CPD Sgt. Nicholas Hairston told The Dispatch. Williams was arrested for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm. During the investigation, detectives identified Clopton as the suspect in the shooting and arrested him Saturday. Both Clopton and Williams remained in custody in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center as of Sunday afternoon.
