A single-vehicle accident claimed the lives of two Lowndes County men early Sunday morning.
Sir Ellihue Blackwell, 19, was identified as the driver of the silver Lincoln Continental that on Sunday morning crashed into a tree on Black Creek Road, Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant wrote in a text to media members. Merchant identified Aiden Taylor, 20, as the front seat passenger.
Both men died in the crash.
At about 4:25 a.m., Blackwell turned off Military Road onto Black Creek Road traveling south when he lost control of the car and crashed into a tree, Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch. He suspects both men died on impact.
“The motor in the vehicle was no longer in the vehicle,” Hawkins said. “It was wrapped around a tree. They were traveling at a high rate of speed when they hit the tree.”
Deputies were alerted to the crash after either Blackwell or Taylor’s phone automatically called 911 because the vehicle had abruptly stopped, Hawkins said.
Shortly after being notified, deputies responded to the 400 block of Black Creek Road, where they found Blackwell and Taylor unresponsive. Deputies determined both men were not breathing, a sheriff’s office press release said.
Blackwell and Taylor were declared dead on the scene, Merchant wrote.
LCSO is still investigating the crash.
