A Columbus man faces felony charges after allegedly strangling his ex-girlfriend Sunday after the two got into an altercation at her home.
Eltoro Deyon Harris, 45, is charged with aggravated domestic assault, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release issued Monday.
Deputies responded to a Buck Egger Road residence Sunday in reference to a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, deputies spoke with a female victim who said Harris, her ex-boyfriend, had allegedly come to her home and began banging on the door.
After she opened the door to confront Harris, the victim said a verbal argument escalated to a physical altercation, during which Harris allegedly grabbed the victim, threw her to the ground and began choking her. The victim said she told Harris she could not breathe.
The victim said she eventually broke free and fled toward the backyard of the residence. Harris then allegedly attempted unsuccessfully to hit the victim with his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The press release said deputies observed tire marks in the yard of the residence that corroborated the victim’s account of the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be considered as it continues, the press release said.
Harris is being held at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. No bond was set as of press time.
