(WTVA) – Officials have confirmed the deaths of two Ole Miss students. Lafayette County Coroner Glenn Coleman said the two students died Monday. The University of Mississippi said its police are not aware of any additional student deaths. The university added that its police department is working with both local and state law enforcement and that the cause of the students’ deaths is under investigation. (https://www.wtva.com/2026/09/22/two-ole-miss-students-found-dead-investigation-underway/) RELATED - Two Ole Miss students found dead; investigation underway The Oxford Police Department said there is no confirmed evidence indicating that the two deaths are connected. However, packaged Kratom sold from a retail store was found during both investigations. Dispatch information shows emergency medical services were called to Stewart Hall on Monday around 1:30 p.m. for a possible overdose. The department added that they do not have confirmed information indicating that kratom or any other substance was a contributing factor in either death. “The University is heartbroken by the recent loss of two students and extends our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones during this difficult time. We are aware that considerable unverified information is circulating on social media and in the community regarding these recent student deaths. The Coroner’s Office has confirmed two student deaths, and University Police are not aware of any additional student deaths. University Police remain in contact with local and state law enforcement, and the causes of the two deaths are still under investigation. We encourage our community not to speculate about the circumstances or repeat information that has not been officially confirmed. We appreciate your understanding and support for our campus community during this difficult time.” University of Mississippi The university encourages those who need it to seek support at: (https://links.us1.defend.egress.com/Warning?crId=6ab2ccd00237de9ba096e69a&Domain=gray.tv&Threat=eNpzrShJLcpLzAEADmkDRA%3D%3D&Lang=en&@OriginalLink=olemiss.edu&Base64Url=eNrLKCkpKLbS18_PSc3NLC7WS00p1U_OL80rTs3JzEvXBwC8XwvJ) (https://links.us1.defend.egress.com/Warning?crId=6ab2ccd00237de9ba096e69a&Domain=gray.tv&Threat=eNpzrShJLcpLzAEADmkDRA%3D%3D&Lang=en&@OriginalLink=olemiss.edu&Base64Url=eNrLKCkpKLbS18_PSc3NLC7WS00p1U_OL80rTs3JzEvXBwC8XwvJ) University Counseling Center (https://links.us1.defend.egress.com/Warning?crId=6ab2ccd00237de9ba096e69a&Domain=gray.tv&Threat=eNpzrShJLcpLzAEADmkDRA%3D%3D&Lang=en&@OriginalLink=olemiss.edu&Base64Url=eNrLKCkpKLbS18_PSc3NLC7WS00p1S_NTSwpSS3SBwCZxwqU) (https://links.us1.defend.egress.com/Warning?crId=6ab2ccd00237de9ba096e69a&Domain=gray.tv&Threat=eNpzrShJLcpLzAEADmkDRA%3D%3D&Lang=en&@OriginalLink=olemiss.edu&Base64Url=eNrLKCkpKLbS18_PSc3NLC7WS00p1S_NTSwpSS3SBwCZxwqU) UMatter: Student Support & Advocacy Copyright 2026 WTVA.
