                    "PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - A Pickens County deputy has been arrested after allegations of misconduct.According to the Pickens County Sheriff\u2019s Office, authorities became aware of allegations of the possible misconduct Friday, Sept. 11.Officials said Sheriff Jordan Powell consulted with the district attorney\u2019s office and requested immediately that the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) conduct an independent and impartial investigation of the allegations. That investigation began on Monday.Wednesday, Sept. 16, the sheriff\u2019s office said Deputy James Long Reed was arrested by the state bureau of investigation as a result of the investigation and was relieved of his duties with the sheriff\u2019s office.James Long Reed(Pickens County Jail)\u201cAs law enforcement officers, we are held to a higher standard of conduct and accountability. When an officer fails to meet those standards and violates the law, they should be held accountable just as any other person who commits a crime. Our badge does not place us above the law, and maintaining the public\u2019s trust requires accountability at every level,\u201d said Powell.Reed also works for the Northport Fire Department. Northport Mayor Dale Phillips declined to say specifically what position Reed holds, but did say he is on administrative leave.\u201cAt this time, the employee is on administrative leave, at which time we will track along with the investigation and the process that it takes. This is not a Northport investigation, so we\u2019re waiting to see the results and see what they find out,\u201d Phillips told WBRC.Phillips did not confirm whether the administrative leave is paid or unpaid. The SBI said the case is ongoing and any results will be turned over to the Pickens County District Attorney.
