((http://www.wbrc.com) WBRC ) - A Pickens County deputy has been arrested after allegations of misconduct. According to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, authorities became aware of allegations of the possible misconduct Friday, Sept. 11. Officials said Sheriff Jordan Powell consulted with the district attorney’s office and requested immediately that the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) conduct an independent and impartial investigation of the allegations. That investigation began on Monday. Wednesday, Sept. 16, the sheriff’s office said Deputy James Long Reed was arrested by the state bureau of investigation as a result of the investigation and was relieved of his duties with the sheriff’s office. (James Long Reed) James Long Reed (Pickens County Jail) “As law enforcement officers, we are held to a higher standard of conduct and accountability. When an officer fails to meet those standards and violates the law, they should be held accountable just as any other person who commits a crime. Our badge does not place us above the law, and maintaining the public’s trust requires accountability at every level,” said Powell. Reed also works for the Northport Fire Department. Northport Mayor Dale Phillips declined to say specifically what position Reed holds, but did say he is on administrative leave. “At this time, the employee is on administrative leave, at which time we will track along with the investigation and the process that it takes. This is not a Northport investigation, so we’re waiting to see the results and see what they find out,” Phillips told WBRC. Phillips did not confirm whether the administrative leave is paid or unpaid. The SBI said the case is ongoing and any results will be turned over to the Pickens County District Attorney. Thursday, Sept. 17, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Reed was arrested on the following charges: 2 counts of electronic stalking 1 count of voyeurism Get news alerts in the (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wbrc-fox6-news/id449660326) Apple App Store and (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.raycom.wbrc&hl=en_US&gl=US) Google Play Store or subscribe to our email newsletter (https://www.wbrc.com/newsletter/) here .
