                    "PRESS REVIEW: Friday, September 11\u2013 25 years on from 9/11, the international press reflects on the war on terror, its legacy and its failings. In France, the\u00a0far-right\u00a0National Rally party tries desperately to distance itself from the overtly racist comments of one of its security\u00a0officials, made while on duty for his day job as a police officer. Finally, a\u00a0fossilised\u00a0feather may give us new insights into\u00a0why birds survived the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs.                \n                                                    The Washington Post headline reads \"the 9/11 response got the most important thing right\", despite mistakes \u2013 the paper acknowledges \u2013 in Iraq and Afghanistan. A similar verdict from the Wall Street Journal: taking the war to terrorists\u00a0abroad and\u00a0holding any country\u00a0harbouring\u00a0terrorists responsible were two key principles that\u00a0protected the US against any similar attack in the 25 years that followed. There is\u00a0a different angle in\u00a0the European press.\u00a0The Times reminds us that the Bush administration\u00a0were\u00a0quick to conflate an\u00a0attack perpetrated by Saudi citizens with Iraq, an \"entirely unrelated country\". Here in France, Le Monde has interviewed a former French intelligence official, who, when asked whether Osama Bin Laden had succeeded in his\u00a0objectives, said\u00a0\"al Qaeda's trap\u00a0was the long wars into which America plunged.\"\u00a0 In France, the National Rally seek to distance themselves from a scandal after a police officer with close ties to the party inadvertently recorded himself complaining\u00a0about seeing Black and Arab people around the town of Carcassonne\u00a0using\u00a0offensive\u00a0racial slurs. Quoted in Le Figaro, representatives of the far-right party called the incident an \"isolated case\" and\u00a0insist that such convictions have no place within their ranks.\u00a0L'Humanit\u00e9, though, argues that the officer said out loud what the National Rally truly believes, citing MP Caroline Parmentier, who has bemoaned a \"normalisation\u00a0of homosexuality\", referred to the travelling community as \"scabious bohemians\", and lamented\u00a0the \"demonisation\" of Nazi-collaborationist leader of Vichy France, Mar\u00e9chal P\u00e9tain.\u00a0 And, finally, The Times brings us news of a piece of\u00a0fossilised\u00a0dinosaur dung in which a feather appears to have survived the domestic journey.\u00a0The feather may offer a rare insight into why\u00a0almost all\u00a0bird families went extinct with the dinosaurs: was it a question of feathers? Did the other prehistoric bird families have plumage\u00a0too thin for the post-asteroid\u00a0climate?"
