CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) – Dust is filling the air as farmers work hard in the fields.
The recent lack of rain may not be good news for everyone. Right now, it’s exactly what farmers need to get their crops out of the field during harvest time.
The dry weather allows them to get equipment into the fields without dealing with muddy conditions.
Dr. Amee Ausec, an assistant professor for the Mississippi State University Extension Service, said the lack of rain is actually working in farmers’ favor.
“The past two weeks we haven’t gotten any rain, so farmers have been able to finish up their corn harvest and start on soybean harvest,” Ausec said. “They are rolling. So if you see any dust in the fields, that’s where it’s from.”
Farmers will continue harvesting corn and soybeans as long as conditions remain favorable.
