TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - If you’re hitting the road this Labor Day weekend, be prepared to pay more at the pump.
Gas prices remain elevated after months of pressure tied to the war in Iran, and with millions of Americans traveling for one last summer getaway, those costs are adding up.
The national average for a gallon of regular is now just above four dollars, a level that would mark a record high.
According to AAA, Mississippi’s average is $3.72.
And with Labor Day travel underway, drivers are feeling that extra expense from the moment they pull onto the highway.
“It’s too high, too hot, especially for the travelers you put in certain about and you still have to stop,” said Jasmine Clark, a Labor Day traveler. “You only going a short distance and you still have to fill right back up, so it’s too high and hopefully we get help soon and get it down.”
Experts say prices could remain elevated as long as uncertainty surrounding the conflict continues.
