(WCBI) \u2013\u00a0It is just after six in the morning,\u00a0 and cadets in ICC\u2019s CORE program are in the weight room.\nAnd also getting in some cardio with sprints.\n\nCadets take part in PT four days a week. It may be tough,\u00a0 but Ashley Sanderson says it is helping prepare her for the police academy.\n\n\u201cGoing to the academy will be a huge struggle,\u00a0 we are doing it for an hour here,\u00a0 academy will be all day,\u00a0 pushing myself to get up as early as I do here, it will be worse at the academy,\u201d Sanderson said.\n\nDr Tim Clouse is coordinator of the CORE program,\u00a0 which is open to all agencies in the counties served by ICC.\u00a0 He says cadets , who must be enrolled at ICC, are focused on the mission.\n\n\u201cOne of the biggest problems we have when people go to the academy is they are not prepared for it,\u00a0 it is a shock to them, so we are trying to get them prepared so they don\u2019t wash out the first day,\u201d Dr. Clouse said.\n\nThe CORE program is set up like a police academy,\u00a0 so along with PT, there is also classroom time.\u00a0 Cadets have a choice of three different options , depending on their career interests, law enforcement, forensics and pre law.\n\n\u201cWhat we are trying to do is introduce a little bit of everything to all three groups, because law enforcement has to work with attorneys, attorneys with law enforcement, forensics starts coming in with major cases, attorneys have to know processes of forensics and forensics has to know about attorneys roles because they present the cases,\u00a0 we are trying to get everybody on the same page,\u201d Dr. Clouse said.\n\nCadets say though the semester has just started,\u00a0 they are learning a lot.\n\n\u201cGives better insight of being in police and law, get more of a hands on experience than sitting in a classroom,\u201d said C.O.R.E. Cadet Kaylie Vanlandingham.\n\n\u201cLearning how to write reports, and going over gun safety,\u201d said C.O.R.E.
