Personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies deployed for the recently concluded Osun State governorship election have received their election duty allowances after a SaharaReporters report on the delayed payment.
A source within the NIS told SaharaReporters on Sunday, August 30, 2026, that officers deployed for the election were paid N50,000 each across all ranks, barely 72 hours after SaharaReporters reported that their special duty allowances were being withheld.
The source also disclosed that personnel of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have equally received their payments.
"All officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service and Ekiti State Command of Nigeria Immigration hereby appreciate SaharaReporters for the news they published,” the source said.
"With a little bit over 72 hours, they have paid everyone election allowances of N50,000 each across all ranks. Correctional Service personnel have also been paid, and NSCDC too."
SaharaReporters had reported on Wednesday, August 26, how some officers of the NIS deployed for the August 15 Osun governorship election accused the state command of withholding their special duty allowance despite allegations that about N120 million meant for the operation had been paid into the agency's account.
A source within the NIS had told SaharaReporters that officers deployed across Osun State from the Osun State Command were grumbling over the alleged failure of the command and the Service headquarters in Abuja to release their allowances.
According to the source, about N120 million was allegedly paid into the NIS account by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in connection with the election deployment.
The source further claimed that funds were also provided by the Osun State Government for the operation.
Despite the alleged availability of funds, personnel deployed for the election had reportedly not been paid even after completing their assignments.
Some officers were said to have borrowed money to cover transportation and other expenses incurred while travelling to their deployment locations.
"It was said that some officers borrowed money to enable them to go to their deployment area," the source had said.
The source also alleged that the Osun State Command and NIS headquarters had failed to resolve the issue despite the conclusion of the electoral assignment.
"Officers are grumbling as both the state command and headquarters in Abuja refuse to pay the officers deployed for the election up to date. It was revealed that INEC paid the money into the immigration account," the source had told SaharaReporters.
The allegations had raised questions among personnel over the whereabouts and management of funds reportedly released for the election operation.
When contacted for a response, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service in Osun State, DSI Abiola Anjorin, said that payment to personnel deployed for the election was still being processed.
"This is not peculiar to NIS officials alone; other agencies too have a similar issue; hence, it's a process, and with the information received, they are going to be paid very soon as Service Headquarters is working on it," Anjorin had told SaharaReporters.
The NIS personnel's complaints came shortly after SaharaReporters reported similar grievances by NSCDC personnel deployed for the same Osun governorship election.
The NSCDC personnel had complained that despite completing their election duties, they had not received their special duty allowances, leaving some officers struggling with transportation and other expenses incurred during the deployment.
The payment by the agencies has therefore brought relief to personnel who had reportedly waited for weeks after completing their election assignments.
