IUKA, Miss. (WTVA) – From a hot dog cart to a sixth annual event, a completely free event is coming.

The sixth annual Iuka Town Appreciation Day is set for Sept. 19 in the city’s Jay Bird Park.

Organizer Hunter Peters said this year attendees can expect food, coffee, and gourmet chili dogs, all for free.

Vendors are paid in advance, letting families make memories rather than break out their wallets.

“They can have a fun, free family day at no cost,” Peters said. “It makes memories.”

With the food, there will be a car, Jeep, side-by-side, and bike show, live music, bounce houses, face painting, and games from Reconnect for Autism.

Peters also said there would be a rock scavenger hunt, with each find being a prize for the kids.

Along with the fun, Peters said it is also a chance to help students further their education.

Donations that are made during the Appreciation Day are put towards scholarships for students in Tishomingo County.

In May, two scholarships were presented to students attending Tishomingo County Career and Technical Center.

Peters said Town Appreciation Day all began with giving out free hot dogs in Iuka’s O’Reilly’s parking lot.

Now a nonprofit named Town Appreciation Day, they have a P.O. Box at the Iuka Post Office. It is 211.

People can also reach out to discuss donations with Peters at (662) 660-2012.

He can also be reached on Facebook via “Town Appreciation day Iuka Ms.”

Money donated this year will go to students next year, as Peters said there was a lot left over from 2025.

Peters hopes to add three to four more scholarships if enough is raised.
