(WTVA) – Authorities are searching for a man following a shooting on Thursday. Columbus Police are searching for 22-year-old Antonio Thompson Jr. after a 28-year-old man was shot in the 1500 block of 24th Street North. Police said the man who was shot was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A witness who did not want to appear on camera told WTVA 9 News the victim was running down the street when the suspect opened fire. The witness said the victim then ran into a nearby home for safety. He also claimed he heard about 15 gunshots. Police said Thompson’s mother, Petyonilla Frierson, was arrested and charged as an accessory after the fact. Sgt. Nicholas Hairston said officers arrested Frierson after she allegedly came to the scene and drove her son away. Police are still looking for Thompson. Anyone with information that can help is asked to contact Columbus Police at (662) 244-3500 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151. Copyright 2026 WTVA. All rights reserved.
