Wynette and Parton became icons of country music and American pop culture in general during the course of their lives.

They also graced the stage and studio together with “Honky Tonk Angels,” a collaborative album between the duo and fellow country music singer Loretta Lynn.

The album’s cover art is on display at the legacy center.

Larry Cantrell, the director of the Tammy Wynette Legacy Center, said Wynette and Parton were close friends.

He said there were plans for Parton to visit the legacy center following a performance for Marty Stuart in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Unfortunately, it never happened.

“We wanted her to walk through here, to see the place. We missed our day,” Cantrell said.
