GREENVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) – A man was convicted of entering the country illegally following his arrest in Tippah County.

Wednesday, 51-year-old Fredis Ramos-Serrano, a.k.a. Carlos Roberta Galvez-Jovel, of Honduras, was sentenced in federal court, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi.

A judge sentenced him to four years and nine months in prison, followed by one year of supervised release for illegal reentry into the United States.

This stems from his arrest by the Blue Mountain Police Department.

The attorney’s office states that Ramos-Serrano had previously been convicted, under an alias, for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy in 2003.

They add that he had multiple other federal felony convictions, including a previous conviction for illegal reentry. He had been deported twice already and has never applied for permission to reenter the country lawfully.

An immigration detainer was placed on Ramos-Serrano by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Once he is out of prison, he will be deported from the United States.
