REUTERS\n\n\n\nThe nation should see him as the happy warrior he deserves to be: cheerful, proud, upbeat.\n\n\n\n\n\nTrump began his second term full of optimism, promising a \u201cgolden age,\u201d reversing the misery and turmoil of the Biden years  \u2014 and immediately started making good on his vows.\n\n\n\nHe secured the border almost instantly, cutting the illegal migrant inflow by more than 90%, and soon close to 100% (and so debunking Democrats\u2019 yearslong claims that the job was impossible without new laws).\n\n\n\n\n\nInflation fell from a high of 9.1% under President Joe Biden to just 2.7% last year.\n\n\n\nOver Democrats\u2019 vociferous objections, Trump\u2019s Big Beautiful Bill prevented economy-killing tax hikes and provided new tax cuts \u2014 on tips, overtime, Social Security, etc. \u2014 to benefit working folks.\n\n\n\nHis energy policies produced plummeting prices at the pump and put the country back on the path to abundant, low-cost power (at least in states not run by carbon-hating Dems).\n\n\n\nCrime plunged stunningly, with 2025 seeing the largest single-year drop in murders on record and the lowest murder rate in 125 years.\n\n\n\nEven before his inauguration, Trump got Hamas to agree to a cease-fire that led to the immediate release of its Israeli hostages; he then secured a broader deal that saw all remaining captives released and provided a framework for a permanent peace in Gaza. \u00a0\n\n\n\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\n\n\nThe prez also brokered accords stopping no less than seven other global conflicts.\n\n\n\nYet he also did something no other president has had the cojones to do: Destroy Iran\u2019s nuclear facilities, setting its bomb program back years.\n\n\n\nAnd directed the capture of Venezuela\u2019s criminal dictator, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.\n\n\n\n\n\nTrump also pushed back on the antisemitism and racism plaguing the nation\u2019s universities and on DEI \u2014 and he\u2019s rebuilding the US military with a focus on preparedness, not pronouns.\n\n\n\nAll that work has left the nation far, far stronger, so it\u2019s beyond fitting that Trump\u2019s address will come on the heels of two Olympic hockey golds, with a pride summed up by Jack Hughes: \u201cThis is all about our country right now,\u201d he cheered. \u201cI\u2019m so proud to be American today.\u201d\n\n\n\nWe expect the prez to reflect that joy in his speech, even as he acknowledges the challenges still ahead.\n\n\n\nAbove all: Americans are still nervous about the economy, unsure if it\u2019s truly climbing out of the hole that Biden dug, wondering when it\u2019ll stop feeling like they\u2019re still losing ground.\n\n\n\nThat\u2019s why they need this address in the end to be about them \u2014 with their president laying out credible cause for hope. \n\n\n\n\nThat leaves no room for any of Trump\u2019s own grievances, and demands some clear if subtle signs that he understands the public\u2019s worries in the wake of scenes like the chaos in Minneapolis.\n\n\n\nOne good way to deliver that is to repeat his longstanding support for legal immigration \u2014 for America welcoming new entrants who can help build our better future.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSending the chaotic Biden illegal surge home (an estimated 2.5 million are gone already) goes hand in hand with welcoming a regulated legal influx.\n\n\n\nWith an eye on the midterms, Democrats (and their media auxiliaries) will continue doing all they can to sow anxiety and sour the public mood: Enough pessimism, and they might even manage to derail or delay the recovery.\n\n\n\nBy reassuring the country in his State of the Union, Trump will serves his party\u2019s best interests as well as the nation\u2019s."
