EUGENE, Ore — A planned speaking event at the University of Oregon featuring Miss Israel 2021 Noa Cochva was met with a large protest Wednesday. Cochva ultimately canceling her appearance due to safety concerns.
University of Oregon Police secured a reserved area on the lawn across from the Lillis Business Complex as around 50 protestors demonstrated against the event.
Ahead of the event, the protest organizers posted online saying quote “The university is allowing another former IDF commander to come and claim there is no genocide happening in Palestine."
Cochva served as a combat medic in the Israeli military.
Protesters refused to speak with us on camera about Wednesday’s demonstration.
Cochva did not appear on campus but we were able to speak with her after the event.
Ducks for Israel, which organized the event, says the purpose was to host engaging conversations about Cochva's military service, Miss Universe experience and social media advocacy for Israeli hostages held in Gaza after October 7th.
UO was Cochva's last stop on a Northwest campus tour.
On Sunday, a private event in Seattle, featuring Cochva was disrupted by a demonstration and 3 protestors were arrested.
