Noxubee woman arrested following fatal crash in Lowndes

Amanda Carrie Ross

A Noxubee County woman was arrested Thursday for driving under the influence following a fatal February crash on Industrial Road west of Columbus.

Amanda Carrie Ross, 34, is charged with aggravated DUI.

Officers responded at about 3:09 p.m. Feb. 18 to the wreck, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release. On the scene, deputies determined the Logistics semi-truck driven by Ross collided with a United Rentals street sweeper being driven by Leslie Brent Williamson, 44, of Columbus.

Williamson was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle for treatment, where he died from his injuries, the press release reads.

At the scene, a deputy administered a field sobriety test to Ross and determined she exhibited signs of impairment, the press release reads. Ross told investigators she had taken Lortab, a prescription pain medication. Investigators obtained a warrant for a blood sample from Ross to conduct a toxicology report.

Investigators received the results of Ross’ toxicology report June 30. It indicated Ross had several controlled substances in her system and a warrant was issued for her arrest, the press release reads.

“This case is a tragic reminder that impaired driving – whether caused by alcohol, illegal drugs, or prescription medications – can have devastating consequences,” Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said in the press release.

The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested Ross on Thursday at her Noxubee County residence.

Ross is being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Bond has not been set.
